The Karnes City Rotary Club is a local chapter of Rotary International; a non-profit, a community service organization made up of local business and community leaders. Our mission is to partner with local and regional businesses and private citizens to support and develop the youth of Karnes County by building on our legacy of developing community service projects that our youth can participate in. We believe this enhances their formal education. We also work to provide them with monetary support after high school, offering scholarship opportunities to both university and trade schools. Last year alone our partnerships funded $19,500 in scholarships in all four of our Karnes County Schools.
Our primary fundraiser is the Black-Gold Sporting Clay Shootout. Through 2024, this event was held in conjunction with Lonesome Dove Fest, an annual community celebration of hunting, fishing and the great outdoors that aligns with the opening of dove hunting season here in Karnes County in the Texas South Zone. In 2025, we shifted the event in order to partner with the South Texas Bar-B-Que Bash, a regional cookoff event, in an effort to expand the sporting clay competition regionally. The Lonesome Dove Fest will continue as it has for many decades in the fall, educating our youth about Karnes County's rich heritage of hunting and fishing by allowing them to participate in the Buddy Hall Memorial 5-Stand Sporting Clay Shoot and working with long-time sponsors such as the Texas Parks & Wildlife, the San Antonio River Authority, and many other dedicated corporate partners. The Karnes City Rotary Club is a 501c(4) non-profit organization. The Lonesome Dovefest Foundation is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. |
